SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The IU South Bend women's volleyball team (7-16, 3-6 CCAC) delivered a powerful performance Thursday afternoon, sweeping Governors State University (7-17, 6-4 CCAC) in straight sets (3-0) at the Student Activities Center. The Titans' balanced offensive attack and stellar defense proved too much for the visiting Jaguars, as IUSB secured the victory with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-17.
The Titans dominated the overall stat sheet, outperforming Governors State in kills (47-31), assists (42-29), and digs (68-59). The team also notched six service aces compared to one by the Jaguars.
Leading the charge for the Titan offense was junior outside hitter Kimora Gorman, who put down a match-high 15 kills, operating at an impressive .344 hitting percentage. Right behind her was Alyssa Carson, who contributed 12 kills and a team-best four service aces, giving her a total of 17.0 points for the match. Emalee Maesch rounded out the top attackers with 8 kills and added 14 digs on defense.
The offense was efficiently orchestrated by setter Brynn Lake, who dished out 30 assists and added 12 digs to her stat line. Defensively, the back row was anchored by Sydney Hanna, who recorded a monumental 24 digs to frustrate the Jaguars' attack all afternoon. At the net, IUSB utilized a strong blocking effort, led by Kendall Gerdes, Gorman, and Ryleigh Grott, who each contributed to the team's total of 5.0 blocks.
IU South Bend will be in action again this Saturday when they travels to Saint Ambrose. Game time is set for 3:00 PM Eastern Time.
