HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Indiana University South Bend Baseball Team (3-7, 0-0 Conf.) went 1-3 at the Mid South Clash in Henderson, TN on Freed Hardeman University's Campus. The Titans won game one 8-5 against IU Kokomo (4-11, 0-0 Conf.) and dropped game two of the first day 6-3 to University of Northwestern Ohio (4-8-1, 0-0 Conf.) On day two the Titans lost both games to Freed Hardeman University (12-6, 0-0 Conf.) by scores of 9-4 and 11-1.
Game 1 (W 8-5)
The Titans hit the road to participate in the Mid South Clash for the second straight year, looking for a better result than last years 1-3 performance. Just like last year IUSB started the weekend facing fellow IU opponent in IU Kokomo. IUK got out to an early lead scoring two runs in the second inning, but IUSB responded with a big five run inning to take the lead 5-2 in the bottom of the third. The Titans added on an extra run in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-2. The Cougars of IUK tried to start a comeback scoring two runs in the top half of the sixth inning to bring the score to 6-4, but the Titans immediately responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to have an 8-4 lead going into the last inning. IUK threatened with the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the seventh inning, but they were only able to push one run across giving the Titans an 8-5 win to start the Mid South Clash.
Clint Goodman and
Kaleb Farnham led the way for Titan offense with Goodman going 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI's while Farnham was 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI's.
Gabe Cortez got the win on the mound throwing 4.0 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runes, 2 earned, and 3 strikeouts.
Josh McCormick finished the game throwing 3.0 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits while striking out 1.
Game 2 (L 6-3)
After a short break the Titans laced up the cleats to take on UNOH in the nightcap of day one of the Mid South Clash. IUSB faced the Racers last year in the same tournament where they fell 25-3, so this year the Titans wanted to show a little more fight. The Titans got off to an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, but the early lead was erased when UNOH scored three of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead 3-2 after just one inning of play. The Titan offense had four straight scoreless innings while the Racers extended their lead with one run in the second inning and two runs in the fourth inning bringing the score to 6-2 through five innings of play. IUSB added one more run in the top of the sixth inning to come within three runs, but it was too little too late, as UNOH held on for a 6-3 victory.
Kaleb Farnham and
Gabe Cortez had the only RBI's for the Titans as they each had one a piece.
Andrew Parker picked up the loss only throwing 2.0 innings in his start giving up 4 runs, 4 earned, on 3 hits and only striking out 1.
Riley Thomas threw well out of the bullpen going 4.0 innings only allowing 2 runs, 2 earned, on 6 hits and 2 strikeouts.
Game 3 (L 9-4)
The Titans looked to bounce back in day two with a doubleheader against Freed Hardeman University. FHU, who had the day off in the Mid South Clash on Sunday, got out to an early lead against the Titans. The Lions scored one run in the first inning and three runs in the second inning giving them an early 4-0 lead. The Titans fought back and tied the game up with a four run fourth inning. However, the Lions roared back with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 8-4 lead. One more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning gave FHU the victory 9-4.
Jack Ryan and
Kaleb Farnham both had multi hit games each going 2-4, while Farnham added a double.
Gabe Cortez was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. The Titans sent four pitchers to the mound with
Josh Vis getting the start only lasting 2.0 innings allowing 4 runs, 4 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 2.
Adam Amodei threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.
Jack Kienzle took the loss only lasting 0.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and 1 strikeout.
Logan Vandermark kept the game within reach in his 1.1 innings of work giving up 1 run on 2 hits.
Game 4 (L 11-1)
A seven run second inning surged FHU past the Titans in the final game of the Mid South Clash. The Titan offense was quiet scoring only one run in the fifth inning on a
Braedon Leathed RBI double. The Lions scored one run in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. IUSB sent five different pitchers to the mound in the final game with starter
Aaron Boyer getting the loss throwing 1.2 innings giving up 6 runs, 6 earned, on 4 hits and no strikeouts.
Max Lines didn't record an out in relief giving up a run on 2 hits,
