Efficient Attack Sends IUSB Past Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- IU South Bend made quick work of its latest conference road trip Tuesday night, using an efficient and balanced offensive performance to sweep Mount Mary 25-8, 25-14, 25-20.

The Titans controlled the match from the opening serve, finishing with 43 kills and a .370 hitting percentage while committing just 13 attacking errors. IUSB hit better than .300 in every set and held Mount Mary to only 18 kills and a .013 percentage for the match.

IU South Bend wasted little time establishing control. The Titans scored the first five points of the opening set and stretched the lead to 11-1 behind contributions throughout the lineup. Kadence Brumitt supplied six kills in the frame as IUSB hit an even .500 and cruised to the 25-8 victory.

The second set followed a similar script. After briefly falling behind 3-1, the Titans settled in and gradually created separation. A four-point run pushed the advantage to 10-5, and IUSB later scored five straight behind Emily Adams' serve to move ahead 15-7. Mount Mary never seriously threatened from there as the Titans took the frame 25-14.

Mount Mary provided its best push in the third, holding a 20-18 advantage late in the set. IU South Bend responded by shutting the door with seven consecutive points to finish the night. Kate Dole started the run with a kill before Georgi Patten, Emalee Maesch and Mia Norris all found the floor. A Maesch and Bree Lake block brought up match point before Maesch finished the sweep with one final kill.

Patten put together the best offensive match of her freshman campaign, setting a season high with eight kills. She needed just 14 attacks to reach the mark, committing only two errors for a .429 hitting percentage. Patten also added three digs, a solo block and a block assist in an efficient all-around showing.

Brumitt paced the Titans with 12 kills on 20 swings, hitting .450 while adding two service aces. Alyssa Carson continued the team's efficient night with seven kills and just one error on 11 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage.

Bree Lake was nearly perfect offensively, putting down six kills on eight swings without an error for a .750 clip while adding two block assists. Dole also made the most of her opportunities with three kills and no errors on seven attacks, hitting .429.

The Titans spread the setting responsibilities around throughout the sweep. Brynn Lake led the way with 19 assists and two aces, while Norris handed out 10 assists in just one set of action. Mallorie Elliott added seven assists and a team-high three service aces.

Maesch rounded out the balanced effort with five kills, eight digs and an ace, while Adams added eight digs. IUSB finished with 10 service aces and received contributions from nearly every part of the roster.

The victory improved IU South Bend to 13-16 overall and 9-6 in conference play while giving the Titans their eighth sweep of the season.

The Titans will stay on the road for their next matchup, facing Judson on Thursday at 8:00 pm ET.
