A Sweeping Success

WHITING, Ind. --- IU South Bend baseball took care of business on Thursday afternoon, sweeping Calumet College of St. Joseph in a CCAC doubleheader at Oil City Stadium.

The Titans controlled both games from start to finish, outscoring the Crimson Wave 21-4 on the day and showcasing depth throughout the lineup and on the mound.

IU South Bend improved to 12-12 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Game One: Offensive Explosion in 12-2 Victory

IU South Bend scored in six of seven innings, piling up 12 runs on 14 hits in the opener . The Titans combined for five extra-base hits, including doubles from Luis Turmero, Clint Goodman, and Lenox Estremera, a triple from Goodman and Jayden Cummings, and a two-run homer from Jack Barnes .

Goodman led the charge, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Lucas Brown went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases . IU South Bend was aggressive on the basepaths all afternoon, swiping 12 bags and constantly putting pressure on the defense .

On the mound, Riley Thomas delivered a strong complete-game effort, allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out six . Thomas attacked the zone and kept Calumet from stringing together sustained rallies for his first win of the season.

Game Two: Balanced Attack Secures 9-2 Win

IU South Bend again tallied 14 hits in the 9-2 victory , finishing the day with 28 hits across two games. As a team, the Titans hit .424 (28-for-66) in the doubleheader.

Josiah Nelson paced the offense in game two, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double. Turmero added a two-run homer, and Kellen Demkovich provided a key two-run blast off the bench.

IU South Bend collected five extra-base hits in game two alone, including doubles from Nelson and David Aberoutte (two) and the two home runs .

On the pitching side, the Titans continued to dominate.

Alex Marshall worked five strong innings to pick up the win, allowing just one unearned run while striking out three. Lucky Teerman closed the final two innings, surrendering just one run and striking out one.
