Titans Battle on the Road, Drop Friday Twin Bill at Saint Xavier

CHICAGO, Ill. --- IU South Bend faced a tough road test Friday afternoon, falling in both ends of a CCAC doubleheader at Saint Xavier. IUSB completed two more games amidst its weekend of six games in three days.

Game One: SXU 10, IUSB 2

The Titans opened the day collecting nine hits, while finding late rallies to try and cut into an early deficit.

After Saint Xavier built an early lead with a pair of home runs, IU South Bend responded in the seventh inning. David Aberoutte delivered an RBI single to left center, and Josiah Nelson followed with a sacrifice fly to get on the scoreboard. Another offensive push in the eighth saw the bases loaded with two outs but the Titans could not deliver on the opportunity. 

Jack Barnes led the offensive effort, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate . Sam Garner added two hits, and the Titans totaled nine hits as a team.

Game Two: SXU 6, IUSB 1

Gavin Lake gave IU South Bend six innings of work, allowing six runs — four earned — while keeping the Titans within striking distance .

The offense struggled to break through against Saint Xavier, who limited IU South Bend to one hit in the contest. The Titans manufactured their lone run in the fifth inning when Jayden Cummings came around to score following a pair of throwing errors.

IU South Bend returns to Ferrell Field on Saturday for another doubleheader against Saint Xavier beginning at 1:00 pm ET.
