Dowler Tosses One-Hit Gem at Four Winds Field

SOUTH BEND --- IU South Bend celebrated its 11 seniors Saturday afternoon at Four Winds Field, splitting a CCAC doubleheader with Trinity Christian College. The Titans rode a dominant pitching performance from Noah Dowler in a game one win, before falling 6-5 in a tightly contested nightcap.

Prior to Saturday's games, the teams split Friday's doubleheader at Trinity Christian, as the Trolls took the series opener 9-3 before IU South Bend responded with a 9-7 win later in the day.

Saturday's Senior Day honored Lucas Brown, Nick Turner, Josiah Nelson, David Aberouette, Riley Thomas, Connor Roark, Clint Goodman, Leroy Lepper, Josh McCormick, Finn O'Connell, and Max Lines for their contributions to the program.

Game One: Dowler Dominates in One-Hit Shutout

The opener belonged entirely to Dowler.

The junior right-hander delivered one of the most dominant outings of the season, throwing a complete-game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts over nine shutout innings. Dowler faced just 32 batters and did not allow a run, surrendering only a single hit while issuing four walks.

Dowler was especially sharp in high-leverage moments, recording multiple three-up, three-down innings and striking out the side in key frames. He closed out his complete game in just 113 pitches, logging the shutout victory.

Offensively, the Titans broke through late.

After a scoreless battle through six innings, IU South Bend broke through in the seventh to break the silence with one run. The eighth brought out the fireworks, with five runs coming across for IUSB. Luis Turmero delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a two-run home run as part of the decisive inning. Josiah Nelson added an RBI single, and Jack Barnes drove in a run as the Titans pulled away.

Game Two: Early Surge Not Enough

The Titans jumped ahead with a four-run third inning, highlighted by RBI knocks from Luis Turmero, Jack Barnes, and Kellen Demkovich. Barnes and Demkovich each contributed key swings as the Titans built a 5-1 lead.

However, Trinity Christian answered late.

A two-run home run in the sixth cut into the margin, and a pair of unearned runs in the seventh tied the game at 5-5. The Trolls pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth to claim the 6-5 victory .

Despite the loss, Josiah Nelson continued his strong weekend at the plate with three hits in game two, while Barnes added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Titans will be back in action on Sunday, resuming their final game against Viterbo, picking up where they left off in the third inning at Trinity Christian.
