Turmero Walk-Off Lifts Titans; Snow Halts Game Two

Box Score 1 MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- On a frigid Saturday afternoon that ended with snow flurries, IU South Bend found the magic for an exciting conference win. Luis Turmero delivered for a 5-4 IUSB victory in game one, before inclement weather ended the day prematurely.

The win in the day's opener helped the Titans to win number 10 in 2026, as they boast a 10-12 record and a 5-2 mark in CCAC play.

Game One: Turmero Delivers in Walk-Off Fashion

Game one was tight from the start.

Viterbo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but IU South Bend chipped away throughout the middle innings. RBI efforts from Jack Barnes and David Aberouette kept the Titans within striking distance .

The V-Hawks reclaimed the lead in the seventh on a solo home run, making it 4-3 . But the Titans answered immediately in the bottom half. Lucas Brown led off the seventh for IUSB with a single and was pinch run for by Carson Mashack. Mashack stole second and moved to third on a Turmero base hit, before Cummings lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4 .

The late innings belonged to the bullpen.

Junior Braylon Sheefel was outstanding in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two to keep the Titans right there . His effort set the stage for late-game heroics.

In the bottom of the ninth, leadoff man Josiah Nelson worked a walk and then swiped second base — a crucial steal that moved him into scoring position . With one out, Luis Turmero stepped to the plate and delivered, putting the ball through to center field for a single to score Nelson and secure the 5-4 walk-off victory .

It was Turmero's second hit of the game, as he and Jack Barnes landed multiple hits in the contest. Cummings added to his RBI sacrifice fly with a triple and a run scored in the fourth.

Game Two: Snow Brings Early End

Viterbo built a 5-4 lead through three innings before snow forced officials to halt play . The game will be rescheduled at a later date, if possible.

The Titans will hope the weather holds up over the weekend to allow their next series which is set for Tuesday at Calumet College of St. Joseph.
