Game Recap: Baseball |

Weekend Wraps in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. --- IU South Bend dropped both ends of Saturday's CCAC doubleheader at St. Francis, falling 12-2 in game one and 7-2 in the finale of the four game series.

The Titans moved to 18-27 overall and 13-15 in conference play.

Game One: Saints Pull Away Late

Saturday's opener began defensive-minded, as Noah Dowler took to the mound for IUSB. The righty blew through the first three innings without a blemish on the scoreboard.

IU South Bend struck first in the third inning when Lucas Brown singled home Sam Garner to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

St. Francis matched the Titans with a run in the fourth, before taking the lead with another in the fifth and three in the sixth to create separation.

Another two-out RBI base hit helped a run across for IU South Bend in the seventh, as David Aberouette delivered the hit to trim the deficit to 5-2.

The Saints added four runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to move ahead by 10 and end the game prematurely.

The Titans scored their two runs on just four hits, all coming as singles.

Game Two: Early Deficit Too Much to Overcome

St. Francis maintained its momentum from game one, piling on four runs in the bottom of the first.

The Titans offered their response in the third when Josiah Nelson and Luis Turmero logged back-to-back doubles, and Jack Barnes followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.

However, the Saints added two runs in the fourth and a solo home run in the fifth to extend their advantage.

Turmero and Barnes again logged hits in game two, as they each nabbed a base knock in both ends of the doubleheader.

Josh McCormick worked a complete game with six innings pitched and three strikeouts in the loss.

IU South Bend will look to regroup as conference play continues on Friday when its hosts Judson at 1:00 pm.
