Game Recap: Baseball |

Titans Sweep Judson at Home; Barnes Walks it Off Again

GRANGER, Ind. --- IU South Bend baseball delivered a statement sweep Friday at Rex Weade Stadium, taking both games of a CCAC doubleheader against Judson. The Titans erupted for seven runs in the first inning of game one and capped the afternoon with a dramatic walk-off sacrifice fly from Jack Barnes in game two.

Game One: Seven-Run First Sets the Tone

The day began with fireworks.

IU South Bend sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring seven runs on six hits. The rally started with Jayden Cummings singling and later scoring on a sacrifice fly from Barnes.

From there, the Titans broke it open.

Mason Warren delivered the biggest blow of the inning, crushing a bases-clearing double to score three. Moments later, Lucas Brown added an RBI single, and Luis Turmero followed with a two-run single to right field to make it 7-0 before Judson could record the third out.

IU South Bend starter Andrew Parker kept the momentum firmly in IU South Bend's favor. Parker worked 7.2 strong innings, allowing just two runs while striking out five. He attacked the strike zone early and navigated through seven full innings before allowing a score.

Judson pushed across two runs in the eighth and four in the ninth, but IU South Bend held firm to secure the 9-6 victory.

Game Two: Barnes Walks It Off

As the rain rolled in and remained steady, game two unfolded as a defensive battle.

Gavin Lake was stellar on the mound for the Titans, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard for six frames. He notched a trio of three-up, three-down innings, while totaling four strikeouts.

The Titans broke through in the fourth when Josiah Nelson doubled home Evan Fortson to make it 1-0.

The narrow lead held until the final inning but Judson answered in the seventh. The Eagles scored twice to take a 2-1 lead, before Braxton Myers halted the bases loaded situation for the visitors.

In the bottom of the seventh, IU South Bend seized its final opportunity at the plate.

A walk and a hit-by-pitch put two runners aboard. With one out, Jayden Cummings delivered a single to load the bases. Luis Turmero followed with a walk to tie the game, bringing the winning run just 90 feet away.

That's when Barnes stepped to the plate. Barnes lifted a fly ball deep enough to center field, allowing Kellen Demkovich to tag and score for the walk-off sacrifice fly, sealing the 3-2 victory and the sweep.

Nelson had a big day at the plate, logging four hits, two RBI, and a run scored through the doubleheader.

The regular season will conclude Saturday with two games at Judson beginning at 2:00 pm ET.
