Titans Split at Judson, Secure Series Win

ELGIN, Ill. --- IU South Bend closed out the regular season Saturday with a split against Judson, earning the series victory and clinching the No. 6 seed in the upcoming CCAC Tournament. The Titans will face No. 3 seed Saint Xavier in the opening round next week.

IU South Bend finished the regular season at 21-29 overall and 16-16 in conference play.

Game One: Early Lead Slips Away

The Titans made the first move in the opener on Saturday, scoring in a flurry In the third inning. Jayden Cummings, Lucas Brown, and Lenox Estremera all advanced on a wild pitch that brought home the first run, before Jack Barnes followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

Josiah Nelson launched a two-run home run to provide the exclamation point in the frame, aiding the four-run inning and a 4-0 Titan lead.

Judson plated one run in the third before erupting for six runs in the fourth inning to flip the game. They added two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to build a 10-4 advantage.

The third inning surge was all the Titan offense could muster with only four hits in the game. Luis Turmero logged half of the hits for IUSB with a pair of singles.

Game Two: Titans Respond to Clinch Series

Josh McCormick set the tone from the mound, keeping the Judson offense off balance. The righty hurler went five full innings before allowing a runner to third base, while only allowing one-base knocks.

The Titans grabbed an early lead in the second when Lenox Estremera drove in a run with a groundout, taking advantage of a leadoff single from Jack Barnes and a steal from Evan Fortson.

The decisive frame came in the third.

IU South Bend found a rhythm, going for six runs on seven hits. Sam Garner delivered a two-RBI single, Estremera added an RBI single, and Lucas Brown followed with a two-run knock. Jayden Cummings capped the inning with an RBI double as the Titans built a 7-0 cushion.

Judson chipped away late, scoring twice in the sixth and three in the seventh, but the Titans held firm.

McCormick worked 6.2 innings to earn the win, allowing five runs while striking out five. Josh Vis closed the door in relief to secure the 7-5 victory and record the save.

IU South Bend finished with 11 hits in the finale, with multi-hit performances from Turmero, Nelson, and Brown.

IU South Bend will face No. 3 seed Saint Xavier in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament as the postseason begins next week.
