Attacking Efficiency Helps Titans Sweep Cougars Tuesday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University South Bend volleyball earned its third Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference home victory in way of another sweep after cruising past Saint Xavier inside the Student Activities Center Tuesday, March 9. The Titans defeated the Cougars by scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 26-24, improving to 4-2 overall and 3-1 at home.

Senior Hannah Marchand fueled the Titans with a season-high 15 kills at home this season off 27 attempts, good for an outstanding .444 attacking percentage. Senior counterpart Julie Brown added seven kills Tuesday night off 15 attempts with no errors that registered a .467 clip.

As a team, IU South Bend attacked its best so far this season, collecting 37 kills off 86 attempts with a season-low six errors (.360) while the Cougars collected 40 kills with 27 errors on 126 attempts in three frames (.103). Junior McKenzie Powell help orchestrate the attack, dishing out a team-high 30 assists.

Defensively, junior transfer Amber Jacobs grabbed a game-high 17 digs while adding a block assist. Brown added three block assists to go along with two solos while Powell also added two solo blocks. As a team, IUSB added 10 team blocks to just SXU's two.

Jacobs finished the match, serving up one of her two aces for the match point to boost the Titans over the Cougars.

IUSB hits the road for a two-game road stand, beginning at St. Francis (Ill.) on Thursday March 11 (8 p.m.) before heading to Gary, Ind. to face the RedHawks of IU Northwest on Friday, March 12. The Titans return home Saturday, March 13 for a 3 p.m. start against CCAC newcomer Lincoln College.
