SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The IU South Bend Titans opened CCAC action with a thrilling three set sweep in Wednesday night's home contest against Governors State. The Titans defeated the Jaguars of Governors State in straight sets 26-24, 25-21, 25-22.
In the first set, IU South Bend led by as many as eight points until the Jaguars clawed their way back into the set, tying the game as late as 24-24. Back to back points topped of by a kill from Sophomore middle hitter
Felisha Campanello propelled the Titans to victory 26-24.
Set two saw the Titans jump out to an early lead before Governors State tied the score 8-8. After that IU South Bend took the lead and never looked back, winning the set 25-21 capped off by a kill from defensive specialist
Whitney Gessinger.
IU South Bend fell behind in the third set, trailing by as many as four points before they began to mount a comeback. Tied at 21-21, the Titans won four of the next five points to come out victorious 25-22.
A balanced Titans offense featured three hitters leading the way.
Abby Seeger finished with ten kills,
Felisha Campanello with nine, and
Amber Jacobs with eight.
McKenzie Powell impressed in the passing game with 34 assists to go along with 15 digs on the defensive end.
IU South Bend returns to action on Tuesday, September 6th, at 8:00 as they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University.
