Titans defeat Trinity International for third straight CCAC victory

DEERFIELD, Ill.- After dropping the first set, the IU South Bend Titans (6-11, 4-2 CCAC) came from behind to defeat Trinity International University (13-4, 4-2 CCAC) in five sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 15-7.

The Titans jumped out to a 15-9 lead in set one before Trinity International gathered momentum by scoring eight of the next ten points to tie the game at 17-17. Trinity International outside hitter Brianna Torres broke the tie with a kill, that ultimately led the Trojans to victory in set one.

Set two saw Trinity International leading as late as 18-16, before IU South Bend went on to score four points in a row. The late run came via two Trojans attack errors and two of Abby Seeger's team-leading 20 kills. The Titans went on to win the set 25-23, with the game point coming from a kill by Alexis Joyner

Tied at 3-3, kills from Abby Seeger and Amber Jacobs fueled a six point run to put the Titans ahead 9-3 early in set three. Four more kills for Seeger and three more for Jacobs led the Titans to victory in set three, 25-18.

Six kills in set four from CCAC kills leader Brianna Torres were too much for IU South Bend to overcome, dropping a close fourth set by a score of 25-21.

Trinity International jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in set five, but seven consecutive points from the Titans found them with a 10-5 lead late in the fifth set. Kills from Abby Seeger and McKenzie Powell brought IU South Bend within one point of victory, before Amber Jacobs sent the Titans home victorious with her 10th kill of the contest.

The Titans offense was led Abby Seeger with 20 kills, Amber Jacobs with 10, and Alexis Issette with eight. McKenzie Powell continued to facilitate in the passing game with 42 assists, one shy of her season-high. Suriya Van der Oord led the IU South Bend defense with 28 digs in the five set contest.

The IU South Bend Titans look to extend their CCAC winning streak to four games as they return to action on Thursday, September 29th, against Trinity Christian.
