Titans Drop Doubleheader to New College of Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. --- IU South Bend battled New College of Florida in its spring break finale at the Space Coast Softball Complex, falling 5-2 in game one before dropping an 8-0 decision in game two.

The Titans struck early in both contests but were unable to sustain the momentum against a strong NCF squad.

Game One: New College of Florida 5, IU South Bend 2

IU South Bend wasted no time getting on the board in the opener.

After Savannah Hamilton reached on an error, Reece Douglass delivered an RBI triple to score the first run of the game. Ella Chelminiak followed with a triple of her own, plating Douglass to give the Titans a 2-0 lead in the first inning .

New College of Florida answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half and slowly pulled away with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Douglass and Chelminiak, hitting in the four and five spots respectively, each recorded two hits in the contest. Peyton Norman added a base hit as well, giving her a knock in both games on the day.

Hamilton worked the first four innings in the circle before Jaylah Harlan closed out the final two frames.

Game Two: New College of Florida 8, IU South Bend 0

NCF pushed across a run in the first inning and then erupted for five runs in the second to take control early. The Banyans added two more in the fourth to complete the 8-0 result.

IU South Bend was limited to one hit in the five-inning contest, with Norman collecting the Titans' lone base knock.

McKenzie Timm provided a bright spot in relief, logging 3.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
 
IUSB will kick off CCAC play on Friday, battling at Calumet College of St. Joseph for a single game at 3:00 pm EST.
